Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, commonly called Eucharistic Ministers, are men and women who have been confirmed and who choose to serve the community at the Mass and in ministering to those who are homebound or in nursing homes and other care facilities.  Eucharistic Ministers may be installed by the pastor with the authorization of the Bishop.  Training is in two parts.  A class explaining the theology of the Eucharist and the theology of lay ministry is conducted by Fr. Bob.  A second class on the practical aspects of ministry is held, explaining how we serve at the altar and/or how we serve the homebound. This ministry, although authorized by the Bishop, is always intended to be exercised only in one parish community.  The ideal candidate is a Catholic who has an understanding of the Eucharist and an appreciation of the importance of the Eucharist in the life of the Church.  To undertake this ministry requires a prayerful awareness of the gift of the Body and Blood of Christ in our own lives and a willingness to share that gift.  If you think you might want to be part of this very rewarding ministry please speak to Fr. Bob to obtain details on when the next training session will begin.
